School Related Factors that
Influence Job Satisfaction in
Public Secondary Schools in
Mombasa District, Kenya

Abstract
Job satisfaction among
teachers in Secondary
Schools has been linked to
various School related
factors including school
size, type of school,
student discipline and
teacher housing either
within or outside the school
compound. The purpose of
this study was to examine
school related factors that
influence teachers’ job
satisfaction in Public
Secondary Schools in Mombasa
District of Kenya. The study
used a descriptive research
design. A sample of 320
Secondary school teachers
comprising 218 females and
102 males, using both simple
random sampling and
stratified random sampling
techniques was used. Data
were collected using
questionnaires. Data were
analyzed using descriptive
and inferential statistics.
Hypotheses were tested at
significant alpha level of
0.05. Chi-square test and
Multiple Regression Analysis
(MRA) were used to the null
hypotheses. Results
indicated that there were
significant relationships
between job satisfaction and
school size. No significant
differences existed between
job satisfaction and type of
school, student discipline
and teachers housing.
